Irish National Heritage Park

The Irish National Heritage Park depicts man’s settlement in Ireland from 7000 BC to the arrival of the Normans in the 12th Century.

Stroll through the park with its homesteads, places of ritual, burial modes and long forgotten remains. Your senses come alive with sights and sounds stretching back almost 9000 years. Discover how the Celts, Vikings and Normans came together, intermarried and developed into the rich tapestry which forms Irish Society today.

 


Birthplace of Father James Dixon

James Dixon was born in Castlebridge in June 1758. He studied under Fr.John Sutton, P.P Oylegate and then continued to Salamanca in 1778 and lastly to Louvain where he completed his studies in 1784. Fr Dixon was later deported to Australia in 1800 where he becaome the first priest to say mass in Australia. To find out more please click here.


National 1798 Centre, Enniscorthy

The award winning National 1798 Centre offers a fascinating insight into the birth of modern democracy in Ireland.

The Centre tells the epic and heroic tale of the 1798 Rebellion and it's aftermath using the latest multi-media and interactive computers.

 

Johnstown Castle

The castle is situated in a large, mature, ornamental garden, planted sometime in the 1830's. The castle we see today was constructed for the Grogan-Morgan family sometime in the early 1800's.

 

 
Wexford County Musem

Reflecting County Wexford's turbulent history and rich Irish heritage, visitors can marvel at a host of historic sites and places of interest dotted throughout.

Dating back to 1205, Enniscorthy Castle is home to Wexford County Museum, featuring an extraordinary collection of artefacts related to 1798 rising and 1916 Easter Rising, significant episodes of Weford's tumultuous past. Heralded as Ireland's finest museum, The National 1798 Visitor Centre situated in the grounds of Enniscorthy Castle

 

 
County Wexford Beaches

County Wexford has a series of long sandy beaches running along the East Coast. Some of the best include Curracloe Beach, which is backed by dunes, the popular long sandy Rosslare Strand, the beach at the small seaside report of Duncannon on the Hook Peninsula and the sandy beach at the small seaside resort of Courtown.

 

 Hook Lighthouse

Hook Lighthouse is a unique example of an almost intact medieval lighthouse. It dates from the early 13th century and was a major feat at the time of its construction.

Purpose built as a lighthouse, it has served sailors and shipping for 800 years, apart from a short closure during the 17th century.
